The blood red velvet carpeting of the stairwell continues into this room in
a narrow strip, leading to the vault guards post heading east. The walls
here are polished stone, so polished in fact that the room is somewhat
blinding if over lit. The floor, in the areas not covered by the velvet, is
matte finish stone. A sculpture takes up each corner of the room providing
a hint of culture, and a brass candelabra hangs from the ceiling providing
ample light.

The Top Of a Velvet Covered Staircase
The marble floor continues here from the south. It flows all the way down
the stairs, which are covered by a blood red velvet carpet down the center. A
polished stone banister follows the curve of the stairs, with spires of
blackstone as support. Torches provide plenty of light along the length of
the stairs all the way to the bottom it appears. Slivers of grey splatter
across the shiny white walls creating a psuedo-marble look that extends up to
the ceiling, where it becomes solid grey. Empty suits of black armor are
placed on stands every ten feet down the wall side of the staircase, an
eternaly silent guard to what lies below. An elegant gallery lies to the south.

The Midpoint of an Elegant Marble Gallery
This is almost the perfect geometric center of the castles upper floor.
This is the halfway point in the gallery, which stems off the north/south
guards walk very near the center. The red carpet covers the entire floor
here, leaving just the edges of the marble peeking through at the base of the
walls. Empty suits of plate armor stand against the south and north walls,
each bearing a smouldering brazier in its hands. The scented smoke drifts up
towards the ceiling where it mixes with the torch smoke from the rest of the
gallery. Hanging from the ceiling, unstained by the pitch smoke, a blue silk
banner with a snowflake in the center provides the only artistic decoration
the hall has to offer. The gallery continues to the east and west, and a
velvet covered staircase lies to the north.

The East Wing of an Elegant Marble Gallery
The red carpet widens here, allowing more access to the sides of the
gallery. Less lighting gives the marble a darker appearance here, and
combined with the reflections of the red carpet, it has almost a purple shade
to it. The temperature is noticeably higher towards the center of the
gallery, probably because its the highest point in the castle, aside from the
towers. Up ahead a staircase can be seen on the north side of the gallery,
leading where however is unknown. The gallery continues to the east and west,
and a small curved hall leads north.

so much time to clean even the slightest of corners in a hall, even one as
grand as this, is beyond rational. The fixtures used to hold the railings up
have even been polished so the brass shines like a mirror. The narrow carpet
that runs the center of the hall has been layed in sections, so dirty pieces
can be removed for cleansing without disturbing the rest of the gallery. Even
the wood paneling on the walls has been polished with stain oil to darken the
grain and protect the finish. The gallery continues to the east and west, and
a pale green door heads south.
