A dirt road cuts through the area heading off east into the countryside
and west towards a massive walled city. Thick plumes of dark smoke are
rising steadily from behind the walls as if something were burning almost
continuously. A thick smell of sulfur also invades the nostrils as a fresh
breeze rises from the west. Bones on the side of the road seem to indicate
that this is most definitely not a safe place to have a picnic.

Before a Massive Iron Portcullis
A huge iron portcullis has been erected as a gateway into and out of the
city of Zalkapfaan. A team of several experienced mages took three months
to complete the intricate workings that operate the device, although it
works exactly as required. A simple turn of a key now raises the portcullis
almost instantly, a device which weighs several tonnes and would require
normally a team of twenty draft horses to accomplish.

This large and expansive intersection marks the crossing of the two major
roads of Zalkapfaan. One runs from the giant magical portcullis int the
east to some gigantic buildings in the west. The other road seems to lead
to an immense wharf in the north and to a small gathering of canvas tents
to the south. The roads themselves are filthy and cracked, and several
large holes are visible from missing rocks in the cobblestone.

The immense boulevard stretches from the gates in the east westward,
curving south in the distance towards a massive black-rock keep. The small
stones used in the road are well-orn from both the passage of wagons, as
well as the endless marching of the army. The gutters on the side of the
road are filled with viscous yellow liquid, acrid with small tendrils of
steam rising off.

This huge road travels from one end of the city to the other, and every
building is on a road that leads off of it. From the soldiers camps and
naval docks in the east to the cathedral and keep in the west, everything is
visible from here. The road itself is thick, heavy cobblestone, with two
small gutters on the side. These gutters contain a viscous yellow liquid
that boild and sends off small tendrils of steam.

Before the Drawbridge of a Huge Granite Keep
The central road of Zalkapfaan ends here before a massive drawbridge.
Just beyond the drawbridge lies the huge granite keep, a foreboding and
imposing sight. A large banner can be seen flapping in the breeze over
the keep, a conglomeration of crimson and black in a violent pattern with
many sharp angles. Several pikes are also driven into the ground, each
with the head of a humanoid on it, those deemed unworthy of becoming a
member of the headless horde.
