the bailey behind and walks its way up the motte to the keep. The
large wooden structure has been designed with two goals in mind, easy

The Platform on the Palisade Leading Up to the Motte
The palisade stretches up the steep slope of the motte, approaching the
keep above. Narrow and rickety, the wood of the platform is beginning to
rot and is in dire need of either replacement or shoring up. The edged of
the palisade logs have been whittled to a sharp point, to aid in defense of
the ledge should an attacker attempt to scale it.

A Bend in the Platform Along the Northern Palisade
The platform bends to the north here, following the palisade as it leaves
the bailey behind and walks its way up the motte to the keep. The
large wooden structure has been designed with two goals in mind, easy
defense of the castle in event of attack, and quick mobility of the soldiers
without resorting to the often commoner filled streets of the bailey below.

The northern side of the bailey palisade is in all probability the side
least likely to come under attack. Due to its proximity to the motte, an
enemy is unlikely to draw near without detection, and the crossfire between
the archers here and by the keep would be very devastating. The platform
as such is not as well manned as the rest of the platform, however it is
still under guard night and day.

The Top of the Tower at the Northwestern Corner of the Palisade
The northwestern tower connects to the platforms about the city here,
providing access to the soldiers and archers who both watch out for and
protect the bailey of the castle. Large rails have been erected, a safety
feature quite necessary, for in heavy winds the narrow passageways are
often very dangerous.

The Bottom of the Tower at the Northwestern Corner of the Palisade
This tower at the northwestern section of the palisade leads up to the
platforms above, used for both spotting and fighting with any enemies who
are foolish enough to attack the fortified position. The rickety staircase
wobbles underfoot and several stop-gap measures have been taken to
reinforce the stairway.

The Limeburner's Store at the Front of the Smithies' Ring
A large pile of limestone in the corner of the store is destined for the
forge, where the extreme temperatures will burn off the carbonates within
and leave the fine lime behind. Used by builders for mortar, the substance
is very difficult to procure without extreme heat, and as such the other
smiths are often put out by the limeburners request for excessive heat.

The Bellfounder's Workshop in the Smithies' Ring
Three large iron casts in the corner are used by the bellfounder to shape
the bells that he sells every day. The smaller bells go to farmers and
merchants for their daily use, however large bells are often requested by
the local towns of the area for their churches or clock towers. While not
a steady trade, the pay for such a job is considerable.

An Intersection of Roads Along the Western Palisade
The dirt lane of the road along the palisade intersects with the small
alley running between the grocers' and smithies’ quarters. Large arcs in the
ground show where heavily laden wagons have turned off of one road to
another, and since this intersection provides the easiest access to both the
fish and the smithy markets it is traveled very heavily.

The Bottom of the Tower at the Southwestern Corner of the Palisade
The southwestern tower of the palisade stands here, a spiral stairway
leading up to the platforms above. The stairway is constructed in a
clockwise manner so that defenders above, normally right-handed, will have
a free range of motion while any aggressors will have their swing limited
by the walls of the palisade itself.
