A Steep Goat Trail
   A narrow rocky trail winds around the base of a large
mountain.  The trail is only a few feet wide; probably worn in by
the shaggy white mountain goats seen grazing all about the rocks.
The trail is suitable footing for a sturdy goat but most
travelers would find the trail extremely precarious.  The trail
rings the peak here, and a small offshoot of the trail leads back
down the mountain to the Torvald river.

   The Torvald river is frozen over with several feet of thick
bluish-white ice.  The river flows from the east, from the
highlands of the Great Plateau.  The river passes near the
base of one of the large mountains of the Vinsaar range.  What
looks like an animal trail, probably made by goats, winds its way up
the peak from the northern shore.  The trail is quite steep.
A small plain extends southward from the shore before being
broken by a seemingly endless amount of rolling hills.

   The Torvald river is covered with several feet of thick
bluish-white ice.  The river neatly splits a vast expanse of
plains in two here.  Homesteads, little more than huge shacks,
can be seen on either side of the river.  The southern shore
is still covered with hills, but a few industrious giants have
managed to stake a claim to them.  To the east the river can
be seen tumbling over the side of the Great Plateau in a crushing
cascade of ice.

realm of Jotunheim.  The southern shore is occupied by an
imposing granite building; smoke snaking out of the buildings
chimney is the only sign of occupation.  A jagged rock face
passes for the northern shore of the river.  There are
probably enough footholds to make a climb up into the Vinsaar.

Along the North Wall of a Large Granite Building
   Up close this building is quite impressive. The northern wall
of this building is about one hundred feet long. The roof of the
building is about forty feet high and sloped so that the weight
of snow won't cave it in.  It seems to be built entirely out of
close-fitting granite blocks except for the roof which is made of
thatching and wood. To the south you can see a large wooden door
set into the eastern side of the building. Faint sounds of
raucous laughter break the silence of this otherwise quiet
country. The noise seems to be coming from inside the building.
The Torvald continues its flow to the east a few yards north of
here, and beyond the river lie the base of many tall mountain
peaks.  To the east is a broad snow-covered plain.

   The building is nearly forty feet tall, formed of many close-
fitting large granite blocks. A massive oaken door, nearly
twentry feet tall, rests on heavy iron hinges here.  Raucous
laughter emits from behind the door;  The smell of roasting meat
wafts in from under the doorway.  It appears to be some sort of
festhall.  To the east lies a broad expanse of rolling hills
covered in ice and snow.

   The dimensions of this hall are massive, but somehow the
inhabitants make it look small.  All around the massive central
table piled high with food and drink are many frost giants in
various states of drunkenness.  Woven rugs lie all about the
floor, many of them stained with mead.  The granite walls are
full of trophies. Many bear furs line the wall; Even a white
dragon's stuffed head is mounted on the wall to the west.  Frost
giants are normally wary of strangers but here in Okalnir all are
welcome.  A large oaken door leads out to the cold, and the hall
stretches to the west and south around the large table.

Okalnir, the Mead Hall of Brimir
   The dimensions of this hall are massive, but somehow the

Atop a Large Table
   This large oak table occupies the central position in the
festhall of Brimir.  The table is covered with platters of
sizzling meat and tankards of mead, along with several drunken
frost giants.  Stains from previous feasts adorn the wood. Brimir
occupies the position of honor at the middle of the table
directly south of here.  A large white dragon head stares down at
the table from the wall north of here.

Okalnir, the Mead Hall of Brimir
   The dimensions of this hall are massive, but somehow the
inhabitants make it look small.  Around the massive central
table that is piled high with food and drink are many frost
giants in various states of drunkenness.  Woven rugs lie all about
the floor, many of them stained with mead.  The granite walls are
full of trophies. Many bear furs - and many unrecognizable furs
as well - line the walls. Frost giants are normally wary of
strangers but here in Okalnir all are welcome. A particularly
large frost giant occupies a position of honor at the table here,
and raises a tankard of mead in a toast to all his guests.  A
large fireplace occupies the wall west of here.
