A Gravel Path Cuts Through the Dense Forest

A Large Ravine
This huge ravine looks more like a crater. To wander down it would surely
take some time and would tax the most strongest of travelers. The tropical
forest doesn't seem to care of its existence however. Trees and the animals
that reside within them are numerous indeed. Something peculiar sticks out of
the ordinary however, something similar to that of other forests, game trails.
Only this can't be a game trail, for no game live within tropical forests,
which leads to one conclusion. Someone else, a humanoid being perhaps, lives
in this forest. A tough task ahead to discern which being it may be lays ahead.
A large cabin is visible just before the ravine, it looks like a some sort of
human construction from the make of it. It could be a mission.
Obvious exits: -North -East -South -West -Up -Down

Up a Tall Tree
The size of this tree is immeasurable. It could easily supply a large city
with lumber for an entire year or two, it must be centuries old to be so large.
Large pegs in the tree would give an adventurer adequate means to support his

the strongest leather and is nearly as dense as steel. Huge branches above look
as though they could support the weight of several hundred people all at once.

This branch could hold a great many people all at once. It's width is
greater than ten feet, and it is thicker than most other trees' base. Just
this branch alone could provide fire wood for a small village for an entire
winter. Small animals run along the branch scurrying out of the way and into
their nests among some of the smaller branches. These nests are made of little
twigs from other trees and brown leaves from others.

Standing Inside a Butchers Shop
A large stone counter is mounted on the floor about midway into the room.
The counter stands about ten feet high and has sliding glass doors that are
opened from the rear. Small wooden pegs have been driven into the stone walls
of the room. Hanging from the pegs are different types of game. The animal
meats appear to have been organizes according to the type of animal that was
butchered. Small rabbits, deer, hogs, and goat hang suspended by their hind
legs from the pegs. Along the floor a small amount of blood has collected in
pools. The blood drips from the gashes in each of the animals throats.

Standing Outside a Large Cavern
The road stops here in front of a large cavern. The cavern appears to have
been carved from the side of one of the bordering mountains. The storm giants
have smoothed the rocky walls until the once rough granite and quarz is now as
smooth as glass. A single slab of granite serves as the only door to whatever
rests inside. Mounted into the rock on both sides of the door are large wooden
torches. Despite the constant howl of wind through the area, the torches
continue to burn brightly. The light cast as the flickering flames dart and
dance about casts an eerie glow about the area.

The Outer Edge of the Main Square
The road continues to the east and west. To the east it appears as though
the road ends before two large buildings. To the south the road opens up into
what appears to be the main gathering square. Large boulders are set in
semi-circles around a large stone platform. To the north the road ends at
another large stone building. As one gazes about the valley they realize
that although the storm giants are a fierce warrior race, a few possess the
skill of gifted craftsmen. The ability to carve a city from the bowels of an
entire mountain range is no small feat. The way in which the very peaks of the
mountains were carved down to create a valley that stands at the very edge of
the stormy sky is a testament to the entire race.

The Central Square of Stragthor
The valley opens up providing what appears to be a large central square.
A tall stone platfom is set at the far edge. Numerous boulders, their tops
chiseled flat spread out in semi-circles surrounding the platform. The
boulders provide a place for the storm giants asembled here to sit and listen
to whatever speech is being made. One can only assume that just recently, as
the storm giants entered the race to fight off the armies of the underdark,
that this was the place where the decree of war was read. Tall structures of
stone rise up along the edges of the squares. Windows were carved so that the
occupants of the buildings could peer out and listen to their king's speech.

The Central Path of Stragthor
This path leads from the main gates to the south directly north into the
valley's center. Rising up along both sides of the road are tall stone
structures. As one gazes about they realize that the storm giants simply
carved this city from the existing mountain top. Tall peaks of neighboring
mountains rise up fully encircling Stragthor and giving the city the
appearance of being in a large valley. Thick thunderclouds circle overhead.
Ever so often a bolt of lightning streaks across the sky with a thunderous
roar. The ground shakes beneath ones feeet as the lightning strikes some
object just ahead in the distance. The stone structures bordering the road
appear to be dwellings of some sort for there are numerous windows carved into
the buildings that overlook the road being traveled.

The Central Path of Stragthor
Continuing north on this road brings one into the very center of Stragthor,
the valley of the storm giants. The road is bordered on both sides by large
stone structures. The structures rising from the ground like tall towers to
flank the road. As one gazes about the valley they notice that the entire city
has been carved from the side of the mountain. Rising up on the outskirts of
the city are the peaks of the surrounding mountain. The peaks providing a
natural wall that protects its citizens from large scale attacks as well as
ensuring the city remains safely hidden. Large grassy areas are barely visible
to the northwest. Further to the north the road appears to open up into a
large square or gathering place.

The Southern Gate of Stragthor
To the south lies the main gate of Stragthor, Valley of the Storm Giants.
Erected centuries ago as the last safe haven of this warrior race, Stragthor
has now opened its gates to allow its warriors to roam the land of the humans
in an effort to quelch the ravaging plague of Underdark denizens. As one
enters the valley they realize that it resembles more a city carved into the
stone mountain. Large stone buildings border wide rocky roads. The major
buildings appear to border the city and are actually carved into what remains
of the mountainside. Dark thunderclouds hover overhead casting a deep shadow
over the valley.

behind the protective walls have built their fortress from the natural stone
of the mountain. This effort allows them to use the natural protective
properties of duris as well as allowing them access to the thunderous storms
that linger overhead. Every so often a flash of lightning fully illuminates the
otherwise dark and gloomy sky. The loud explosion created as the lightning
streaks across the sky appears to come from just beyond the gates for one can
feel the ground shake as the bolt strikes.

enters the valley they realize that it resembles more a city carved into the
stone mountain. Large stone buildings border wide rocky roads. The major
buildings appear to border the city and are actually carved into what remains
of the mountainside. Dark thunderclouds hover overhead casting a deep shadow
over the valley.

Along the Southern Wall Road
A shear wall of stone rises up and borders the southern edge of the road. A
thin ledge is visible near the top of the wall. The ledge providing those
sentries the ability to serve as lookouts for any coming toward the valley and
to also keep an eye out on the valley itself. The city, having just recently
been opened, now attracts races from across the lands of Duris. A thriving
market can be found in the northwest section of the valley as Stragthor
becomes one of the safer city for merchants and traders to conduct their
business.

Walking Along Stragthor's Southern Wall
The wall that borders the southern edge of the road has been carved from
the side of the mountain range. The storm giants, wishing to be as close to
the torrential storms that hover overhead, simply excavated a large depression
into the side of the mountain ranges. The natural barrier serves as both a
defense mechanism, as the walls are of solid rock, and as camoflauge from
intruding eyes. At first glance as one walks toward Stragthor they would
simply assume that they are travelling a mountainous path. A ledge can be seen
about thirty feet in the air extending from the southern wall and overhanging
the path. Guards moving about the ledge keep a watchful eye over the city and
on any merchants moving just outside the city's boundary.

The Southwestern Corner of Stragthor
Mounted on the stone wall is a thick metal ladder that leads up to what
appears to be an observation post. A wooden door to the platform appears to
provide one the only access. Dark thunderclouds swirls directly overhead and
it would appear that those individuals in the observation post could simply
hold up their arms and grasp the clouds. Streaks of lightning flash from the
sky striking objects somewhere in the heart of the city. As each lightning
bolt strikes, one fells the ground shake beneath their feet.

A Bend Around the Mountain Side
The road being traveled twists slightly as it extends across to another
mountain. The storm giant architects as they created the valley made as much
use of the cluster of mountain ranges as possible. The sheer walls of rock
still extend toward the sky providing the first line of defense for those
occupants still living in the city. A small ledge can be seen extending from
the wall of the mountain. Walking atop the ledge are storm giant sentries
keeping a watchful eye on the path approaching the main gates. Small metal
torches are placed in the stone walls. The flame casting a dim light across
the road.

Traveling Across a Large Stone Bridge
This large stone bridges links the mountain peak to the east with the peak
to the west. The high arching bridge provides one a clear view of Stragthor,
valley of the storm giants. As one stops to gaze out over the valley of
Stragthor they realize that the storm giants must have worked on excavating
the peaks of these mountain ranges for centuries. It is quite mysterious as to
why this effort was not discovered until now although the storm clouds that
hover over the area do keep the peaks masked in a veil of darkness. To the
north one can see what appears to be a large plataeu of grass and shrubs.
Bordering the west side of this mountain range are tall stone buildings.

Walking Through a Wide Ravine
This wide ravine would appear to be about one hundred yards across. On both
of its edges are sheer walls of tall stone. The ravine is at a slight angle
sloping up toward the north. As one walks in this direction they begin to see
tall stone strutures like that found in the cities across Duris. To the south
the road appears to slope down toward the great walls of Stragthor. A high
arched bridge is visible just to the south and would appear to provide a path
for one to walk across to the other mountain.

A Stone Path Atop the Mountain
This twisted path leads north toward some large stone buildings. As one
gazes in that direction the stone buildings appear to be large obilisks
carved from the mountain itself. The structures rising from the rocky plateau
to stand defiantly against the skyline. The rolling thunderclouds often
respond with arcs of lightning that race across the sky striking the very tips
of the buildings. The road is comprised of smooth flat rocks that have been
set into the hard stone at precise angles. A smooth black mortar fills the
eges of the stone making it appear as though the path is actually a road.
To the east a large building is visible. The amount of traffic going in and
out of the stone doors would leave one to believe it is some sort of inn or
dining establishment.

Climbing a Rocky Plateau
The road is angled slightly and twists and turns its way through a series
of valleys and peaks. Mounted on the stone walls that border the road are
large glass lanterns. The reddish-orange flame burning within the lanterns
cast a bright light across the road. A single large thundercloud lingers
overhead. The cloud casting a deep shadow across the area and if not for the
light provided by the lanterns, it would be difficult to walk through the
area as small boulders jut up from the roadway providing obstacles that
must be navigated. One realizes that it would be difficult to bring a cart
and wagon through this pass. The roadway makes a light turn to the east
at this point but appears to level off.

High in the Storm Cloud Peaks
Although a majority of the valley of Stragthor rests toward the southeast,
this area is claimed by the high council of storm giants. Thier grand mansions
lie just to the north overlooking a large grassy plateau that lies in the
midst of the snow covered peaks. The road leading toward the high councils
mansion are scattered with numerous boulders that jut from the ground like
small fingers. The boulders designed as a guard should any of the great war
machines breach the main walls and attempt to lay seige to this section of
Stragthor. A heavy, dark cloud, lingers just overhead. The fierce wind that
blows through the valley can be screaming with a high pitched wail as it
roams over and under the crevices along the road.

Traveling Through Snow Covered Peaks
Small boulders jut from the road to block any carts or wheeled war machines
that should happen to breach the main walls of the valley. Along the side of
the road are piles of hardened snow. The snow having been pushed to make the
roadway clear for any travelers heading toward the high councils mansions. As
one looks out from where they now stand, barely visible over the snow drifts
is a clear view of Strgthor, valley of the snow giants. The valley appears to
have been excavated from the peaks of large mountains. Large stone bridges
with high arches can be seen linking one mountain peak to the next. A large
storm cloud swirls overhead. Ever so often a bright flash of lightning flashes
across the sky followed quickly by a thunderous grumble.

Crossing a High Arched Bridge of Stone
This stone bridge, arched high into the air, provides the only link to the
next mountain peak. As one stands to peer over the edge of the bridge they
realize just how high the peaks stand. Expecting to see a rocky ground, the
bottom of the bridge, about two hundred feet down is obscurred in clouds.
Overhead a billowing thunder cloud rumbles angrily sending bolts of lightning
down into the main section of the valley. Crossing the bridge toward the west
would lead one to the main mansion of the high council of Stragthor. To the
east the bridge leads to the next mountain peak and what appears to be a crude
road.

Before the Chamber of the High Council
Carved into the side of the mountain is a large mansion. Tall spires of
twisting granite columns rise up from the ground to flank a large granite
door. The columns intricately engraved to resemble tall trees. The branches
twisting around the columns before spreading out to form an arch overhead.
Large stone flowers hang from the granite vines, the small roots on the
surface of the leaves clearly visible as whomever the craftsman was took
great care in his artistry. The building appears to be at least two stories
high and is comprised of blocked granite. The high council which only meets in
times of war, indicate that Stragthor, the valley of the storm giants is
preparing its citizens for the battles to come.
