An Encampment of the Sultan's Guard
   The sultan, as every sultan before him, takes no chances. He has sent his
finest riders into the heart of the desert to safeguard a valuable source of
water, and to ward away the desert people, perhaps a vein attempt to send
them on their way. These soldiers are dressed in light studded suits perfect
for a mixture of riding and fighting. The longswords that they wear on their
sides have the emblem of the sultan's personal riders. The officers are easily
singled out from the other men, for their golden embroided capes declare them
so as easily as if it were stamped on their forehead. The encampment looks to
have been up for quite some time, perhaps a month, perhaps a couple. The number
of tents and horses suggests that at least three dozen soldiers are stationed
here. Caravan trails in the sand suggest daily association with the city to the
south, perhaps shipments of fresh water are sent daily.
